A Return to Segregation

The Nebraska legislature has passed and the governor has signed a bill that "calls for dividing the Omaha public schools into three racially identifiable districts, one largely black, one white and one mostly Hispanic." In Law to Segregate Omaha Schools Divides Nebraska, the New York Times Sam Dillon tells of the effort to re-segregate Omaha's schools at the urging of a black senator to meet "a desire by blacks to control a school district in which their children are a majority."

NEA's "Wake-Up Wal-Mart" Campaign

While updating the site's affiliate advertiser listings and doing some private research due to a personal dispute with Wal-Mart, I ran across the NEA Wake-Up Wal-Mart Campaign. The NEA Other Issues page states:

The NEA Executive Committee has endorsed a national effort called "Wake-Up Wal-Mart," designed to educate the public about the effects of Wal-Mart on its employees, their communities and the economy, as well as the anti-public education activities of founder Sam Walton's family. Vist the NEA Wal-Mart Campaign area.

While I was already less than pleased with our local Wal-Mart, a quick reading of the issues on the Wake-Up Wal-Mart site convinced me to pull all Wal-Mart ads from this site!
