School Closings In School Districts, Calling a Snow Day Is a Careful Science by the Washington Post's Jenna Johnson gives a bit of a look at how one county handles school closings for inclement weather. The whole issue of whether to have a delay to let conditions improve, close school, or even to send kids home early when bad weather is clearly on the way is a tough one. It raises concerns of child care for students who'd normally be in class, interrupting the continuity of instruction, and of course, the physical safety of students traveling to and from school.
